Adamawa 2019:Bindow defeats Fintiri, Nyako, Emmanuel Bello in online poll

In an online poll that attracted almost 154,000 votes, Gov. Umaru Jibrilla Bindow, proved his mettle by besting his  rivals, Umar Ahmad Fintiri and Senator Abdulaziz Nyako.

In answer to the question ‘If the 2019 Adamawa Governorship election were to hold today and the candidates are as below, who would you vote for?’, 47% of the respondents said they would vote for the incumbent Governor of Adamawa State, Umar Jibrilla Bindow. This compares to 31% for the former speaker Umar Ahmad Fintiri, 17% for Senator Nyako and only 5% for Emmanuel Bello of the Social Democratic Party.

This result is consistent with a number of recent polls, including those done by well-known supporters of  the All Progressive Congress, who had following the third anniversary of the administration on May 29 initiated polls ostensibly to test the popularity of the incumbent Gov. Umar Bindow.

In yet another poll conducted by @Nigerian Chronicle, Nigeria’s most successful youth blog run by Shield Media Ltd, who played a key role during the 2014 impeachment saga between Umar Fintri and Admiral Murtala Nyako, Bindow handed Fintiri a crushing defeat of 70% versus 19%. These results have been in tandem with recent poll numbers by Nigeria’s Vision polling Group.

Bindows  administration’s 3-year scorecard in the critical sectors that have the greatest impact on the lives of ordinary Adamawa residents, the presumed base of the incumbent Governor were dismal:Road (55%) Economy (18%), Job Creation (15%) and Poverty Alleviation (12%).

The poll is significant because of the sheer number of respondents who participated in it. This may be because the initiator of the polls are media platform  who also commands one of the largest social media followings in Adamawa and Nigeria.

The 2019 elections is one the most topical issues in Adamawa at the moment with electioneering almost reaching fever pitch. The ruling All Progressive Congress appears to have settled for the incumbent Governor as its de facto Governorship candidate, and the PDP settles of Umar Ahmad Fintiri who is currently battling the EFCC in court over an allegation of diverting over 2.9 billion naira and also using Adamawa State resources to purchase construction equipments of Nguroje Nig Ltd to the tune of 650 million naira through the Bank of Agriculture within 74 days as acting Governor and Senator Nyako and his father who is currently in court with the EFCC over the alleged diversion of 49 Billion naira from Adamawa State coffer.
