Stampede: High-powered Delegation Pays Courtesy Call on Taraba State Government

A high powered delegation have condoled government and people of Taraba over the death of eight people following stampede during presidential rally of All Progressive Congress. The delegation compromised of Secretary to Government of the Federation, Barrister Boss Mustafa, Governor Muhammad Umaru Jibrilla and Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Alhaji Mohammad Musa Bello, among others. Leading the delegation, Secretary to Government of the Federation, Barrister Boss Mustafa, while speaking at Government House said they were in Taraba at the instance of President Muhammadu Buhari to condole the people over the ugly incident.

 

He said the incident led to determination of the president to be more determined to better the life of the ordinary man considering the sacrifice by the deceased.

Barrister Mustafa stressed that politicians and other category of people should be mindful that Nigeria should remain united and avoid crisis during and after the elections.

While handing over a letter of condolence signed by the president, he described Taraba state as endowed and pointed out that the citizens of the state are entrusted to Governor Ishaku Darius.

 

Responding, Governor Ishaku Dickson Darius appreciated the prompt response of President Buhari in sending the delegation to condole people and said politicians should excercise high standard to be able to manage their citizens.

The governor said, the president has exhibited maturity and pointed out that he has gone extra mile to ensure that the APC rally is hitchfree.

He promised to continue to provide development and urged that people of the state will continue to imbibe the culture of peace.

 

The delegation was also at the palace of Emir of Muri, Alhaji Abbas Njidda Tafida, appreciated the gesture of President Buhari who send delegation to identify with families of those that lost their lives while expressing their love and support to the president. While acknowledging the developmental strides of Governor Muhammad Umaru Jibrilla in Adamawa state, the Royal father explained that all those left from the incidence have become his responsibility.

 

While at the residence of one of the deceased, Safiya, the father Alhaji Haruna Kawuwa, and a relative Hajiya Kadijatu Adamu, said they accept the demise of their wards in good faith and appreciated the gesture of the president.

The delegation concluded their visit at the Federal Medical Center, where two of the victims were still on admission. It could be recalled that eight persons have died, while several others sustain different degree of injury following stampede when President Muhammadu Buhari was in Taraba state to canvas for votes for oncoming general election.
