‘Adamawa INEC Rec Is Working For PDP, Redeploy Him’: Youths Protest

Youths of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Adamawa State on Tuesday evening barricaded the entrance to APC secretariat, Yola in protest over purpoted partisanship of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Mr. Gaidam.

The youths called for Gaidam’s redeployment from Adamawa state, stating undue romance with the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state as reason for the call.

Carrying placards with various inscriptions such as: “gaidam must go,’ ‘Gaidam handed uncollected PVCs to PDP,’ ‘Gaidam save our state from crisis,” the youths claimed that the REC was working according to the dictates of the opposition PDP in state.

According to the Chapter Treasurer of the group, Emmanuel Beso, “Gaidam is biased and he is working for PDP.  It took Gaidam over a week to accept the last court injunction slam on Inec, it took the intervention of the National Inec for Gaidam to respect that injunction, today immediately after the court vacate the order, Gaidam hurriedly went and announced Thursday as the rerun date, a date which the opposition has posted on social media prior to the vacation of the court. It is either they change him or there will be no election in the state.”

Speaking on behalf of the protesting youth, a foremost youth leader in the state, Mr Stephen Yaro said “the unfolding events in the last couple of days have proven beyond reasonable doubt that Mr Gaidam is working for the PDP”.

His words, “In the political process in the state, Gaidam has portrayed unbridled partisanship through the selection of its ad hoc staff, some of whom are drawn from the employees of the Commission, contrary to extant practices and institutional requirements.

“Through connivance with the oppostion, all the ad hoc staff of the Commission is made up of loyal members and supporters of the PDP. All effort to speak with Mr. Gaidam prove abortive as his known mobile number was switch as at press time.
