APC petitions NBA, LPPC, wants Barrister Smart Ukpanah sanctioned over an attempt to withdraw the pending case at the governorship tribunal in Yola.
All progressive congress in Adamawa has petitioned the Nigerian Bar Association and other bodies requesting that disciplinary action should be taken against Barrister Smart Ukpanah for allegedly misleading the governorship tribunal to strike out the case involving it governorship candidate in 2019 election, Senator Jibrilla Bindow pending before the election tribunal.
The petition was sparked by Ukpanah’s recent attempt to withdraw the pending petition against the Gov. Fintiri and the PDP at the tribunal.
Separate copies of the petition were sent to the NBA President, the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (the body that confers on, suspends and withdraws from lawyers, the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria), and the Legal Practitioners’ Disciplinary Committee (the body saddled with disciplining lawyers for acts of misconduct).
The petitioners want Ukpanah to be disciplined not just as a lawyer.
The copy of the petition released to journalists on Tuesday bears NBA’s acknowledgement stamp dated June 03.
The petition has two titles one of which accused Ukpanah of making “unsalutary and unprofessional statement” in respect of the pending APC petition against Fintiri.
It also accused him of denigrating the court, violating the constitution and encouraging “the continued breach of the fundamental human right of Senator Bindow”
The petition sought investigations into the statements credited to Ukpanah at the tribunal.
“It is against this backdrop that we are compelled to make this passionate appeal for a timely intervention, in this most unfortunate circumstance. The statement said.
