Sacking of 10,000 wokers: why Fintiri is bad for business

Within moments of Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s upset victory in the 2019 election, civil servants began stampeding into the ill-fated aircraft they boarded to their final destination of oblivion by the man that swore to high heavens that civil servants welfare is his priority. After all, this was a business he had explicitly pledged to rescue. “Workers welfare —we’re bringing it back, bringing it back, folks!” he had promised a wildly sponsored cheering crowd in Jimeta the previous October. So when he took over governance the morning after Election Day, Adamawa worker’s faith continues to be hanging in a balance.

By week’s end the workers friendly governor turned to workers enemy governor, when some workers believed that deliverance has come to the service via Fintiri’s victory as their governor, some of us predicted the disaster this administration will bring upon the people.

For instance in 2014, after illegally impeaching Nyako from office, Fintiri came in when billions of naira was stash in state government accounts with some new generation banks in Yola, he orders the realise of payments to Adamawa workers to prove to the people that he is workers friendly governor to garner votes through this fanfare and brigandage display of empathy for workers as the rerun election approaches in 2014. Eventually he was removed via a court pronouncement that truncated his dream to rule the state in 2014.

Fintiri wins the heart of most residents of the state and went for the kill after building on the 2014 fanfare he tagged as fresh air, this time around he was declared winner by Inec and sworn as governor and shortly began display of his real colour to the people especially the workers.

The primary purpose of every government in Nigeria according to the constitution is the welfare and security of lives and property of the people, one wonder if Fintiri will not be digging his own grave politically by this ill-conceived idea of sacking 10,0000 workers in Adamawa, what does he intend to achieve? He is using “due process” as an alibi and political rhetoric to carry this heinous crime against the workers. Why the silence from Adamawa elites? Who will speak for the sacked workers? When will justice be serving for the oppressed workers?

Fast-forward a few months, to when Fintiri imposed the worst night mares’ plans of sacking the workers. Today the confidence of most voters of Adamawa is trading not just below their 2019 highs but also below where they were before Fintiri’s election. Adamawa workers, which worked hard behind the scenes to help fashion Fintiri’s victory in 2019 are in deep shock and regret due to the grave mistake of sacking them by Fintiri.

What did Fintiri tend to achieve by sacking these workers he swore to protect? No single ministry in Adamawa can boost of a thousand workers. The 10,000 workers sacked is equivalent to sacking staff of 13 ministries in Adamawa state put together. What happen to the salaries running into billions of naira that Fintiri has free up to his government due to non-payment of salaries due to the sacked workers?

Despite not retaining this workers sacked employed since 2018 and his claim of punishing those that benefited from transfer of since the last administration, his media aide, Solomon Kummanger benefitted from same transfer of service. Why other innocent workers are being punished for things they know nothing about, his media aide, Kummanger is right under the governor’s nose without being reprimanded or punish for same transfer of service he enjoy under Bindow’s administration.

In fact Bindow performed more in his 100 days in office more than the current government of propaganda that is in place in Adamawa without sacking any workers, the action of Fintiri is nothing more than freeing up more cash for his administration to spend, not the touted due process he hoodwink the people into believing.

Fintiri claimed that he could not performed due to the loans he inherited, which is a capital lie, his committee claim from Bindow they inherited 115 billion naira debt, fact check show they are lying. Adamawa current debt profile is 95,604,743,892.60.

I don’t know where they got the figure they are brandishing in the public, they came into government through propaganda and they want to rule through propaganda and it has already backfire.

Most states in the north debt profile as at today superseded that of Adamawa state, yet their governors performed more than our expectation. Fintiri should be reminded that FAAC allocation coming from Abuja is meant for payment of salaries first and infrastructure development of the state, why depriving the sacked workers of their common wealth?

To be continued…….
