LCCN Consecrate Bishop, Ordains 35 Pastors

In Nigeria (LCCN), the Lutheran Church of Christ has consecrated the newly elected Bishop of Yola Diocese, Rev. Theophilus Shadrach and ordained thirty-five (35) more pastors.

Performing the rites during the extraordinary expanded General Church Council convention which held in its Headquarters at Numan, the Archbishop of the Church who doubles as the President of the Lutheran World Federation, Most Rev. Dr Musa Panti Filibus, advised the Bishop and the Pastors to considered their calling as a called to serve not lord over people.

He urged them to humble themselves and always pray for the Holy Spirit’s leadership in their dealings, not leaning on their understanding.

Reading from the Gospel of Saint Mark chapter nine, verses fourteen through twenty-nine (Mark 9:14-29), the LWF President admonished the congregation always to put their hope and trust in God with him; all things are possible.

The church President recalls how the law teachers scorned the Disciples of Christ for failure to cast out the demon from the young man who was demon posed brought before them.

However, Dr Musa stated that the whole story changed immediately when Jesus appeared as he ordered the demons to go out from the young boy.

He averred that Nigeria is suffering today from different hardships, ranging from shedding of blood, maiming, destruction, abduction/kidnapping for ransom and forceful marriages because they have relented on their knowledge understanding to solve their problems.

Therefore, the Archbishop used the occasion to charged believers to draw closer to God in prayers and supplications with faith because he is the ultimate solutions to their problems.

Commenting on the global pandemic of the Corona Virus that has ravaged the world’s economy and crippled the development, Dr Musa urged the general public to take personal responsibilities by the simple wearing of facemasks, regular hand washing and avoid overcrowding places to mitigate the spread of the virus.

In their separate goodwill messages, Justice Nathan Musa, Senator Binos Dauda Yaroe and Haman Bachama, His Royal Highness, Dr Daniel Ismaila Shagah, who spoke on behalf of the Traditional Rulers that graced the occasion, commended the leadership of the church for organising such an extraordinary convention to commemorate this year’s annual way that was supposed to hold in its usual ground in Demsa but was hampered because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

They prayed to God to heal their land and tasked the church to continue to pray for the nation’s peace.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Church, Most Rev Dr Nemuel Abubakar, appreciated the church’s efforts for coming up with an idea to build a University.

He commended the Paramount Ruler of Demsa, Haman Batta, HRM Alhamdu Gladstone, for giving them the land to build the University.

He appealed to well-meaning individuals and members of the congregation to support the church’s leadership to actualise their dreams of developments.

The highlight of the convention was: song of praises, special prayers and thanksgiving.
