Fintiri is right to borrow to fund Adamawa infrastructural deficit -APC chieftain

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Alhaji Usman Abubakar, said if oil-producing states and Lagos that has huge internal generated revenue can borrow to fund infrastructure projects, then Fintiri is right to borrow to finance gigantic projects, like the flyover bridge and the 2000 housing units for civil servants in Adamawa.

Usman, who spoke on Monday, August 8, 2021, after receiving a lifetime achievement award presented to him by the Civil Society in Lagos, said the Adamawa state government must borrow to invest in infrastructure and grow the economy.

Usman assured that the borrowings would not be used to pay salaries.

His words: “If you read the newspapers, you hear Governor Fintiri being advised to pump money into the economy. So the question is, where is the money coming from? Simple! It has to come from somewhere, including borrowing – both internal and external. To get this state going again, you have to pay contractors. Some contractors have not been paid for 4, 5, 6, 10 years.

“So long as the borrowing is done not to pay salaries which the Fintiri administration will not do, but invested in creating opportunities, solving our problems of security and things like that.

To allow people to have money to consume, buy goods, and pay for services so that factories can produce. So it is that cycle. We must kick-start the economy, and to kick-start, it will need money, lots of money,” the APC chieftain told journalists after the concert.
