EXPLAINER: What to know about Adamawa state University revised law 2020

In a bid to enhance performance at the Adamawa State University, Mubi, the Adamawa state government in 2020 re-enacted the Adamawa State University, Mubi Law, 2020.

 

The step was also aimed at fostering the growth and development of the University.

 

The Adamawa state government changed the old ADSU laws enacted in 2001.

 

The Adamawa State House of Assembly revised part of the law; for instance, the old rule of the University was silent on the qualification of the holder of the office of the Vice-Chancellor (see section 3(1)(2)(3) of ADSU law 2001.

 

 But in the revised version, the qualification of the vice chancellor’s officeholder is spelt out.

 

The old law of the University pegged the retirement age of a professor at 65, while other categories of staff of the University retires at 60. 

 

In the revised version, section 6 (A) was amended to accommodate a professor in the service of the University to retire at 70 years, while other categories of staff shall retire on the attainment of 65 years.   

 

The new Act vested control of staff duty to the office of Vice-chancellor as provided in the first schedule, with the revised law coming into effect on January 2021, professors at 65 years and other categories of staff at 60 years has automatically attained retirement age.
