Why Prof. Ibrahim Umar’s Tenure Should be Renew as Rector of Adamawa State Polytechnic

Following the recent release of advertisement by the Governing Council of the Adamawa State Polytechnic, Yola, announcing applications to the Office of the Rector and other members of the mamangement  as their first tenure draw near.

 

A reflective of Prof. Ibrahim Umaru’s led Management’s first tenure, required renewal because of his sterling performances and tremendous achievements.

 

Recalled that Prof. Umar took over the leadership of the Polytechnic when the institution was engulfed in a serious academic and infrastructural mess, such as staff industrial actions, lack of student’s hostels, and accreditations vandalizations of some structures due to students’ unrest, among others.

 

He surmounted the courage to navigate these crises and put the school back on the right track of developments.

 

A cursory look at some of his modest achievements are as follows: renovation of the female hostel (Q4) Numan Campus, Student Affairs Office main campus, ADAPOLy Ventures main campus and renovation/conversion of Male Hostel Block (F) to house Agricultural Technology, Physical Planning Unit and Works Department.

 

Others are landscaping of Director Academic Planning Office complex, procurement of 500 mattresses for student’s hostels, Barb wires on parameters fence of the main campus; Fixing of CCTV cameras at the Rectorate, main campus and provision of twenty (20) beds for medical and health delivery bed 24hours.

 

Others included:

• Provisions of free drugs for all Staff.
• Internet facilities.
• Adequate sports facilities.
• Security gadgets/ equipment and procurement of two hundred and seventy-eight (278) fans for male and female hostels.

 

More on his achievements are: procurement of two hundred pieces of computers, utility vehicle for a bursary, renovation of four-hundred-seater capacity and chairs for Staff, resuscitating of Academic Staff and Union of the Polytechnics (ASUP) and Students Union Government (SUG) and training of Staff and reinstatement of four sacked lecturers to mention but few on infrastructural developments of the Rector which prefix is “Mr Projects”.

 

While academically, Prof. Umaru’s performance is beyond a reasonable doubt. He has created some additional schools or campuses on the existing ones.

 

But has advanced the Polytechnic from the Diploma and Higher National Diploma (HND) awarding institution to the soon to be Degree awarding institution.

 

Apart from the School of Social Management Sciences (SSMS) and School of Agricultural Technology (SAT).

 

He has mounted/introduced additional diploma programs, including Diploma in Mechatronics Engineering, Diploma in Computer Engineering, Diploma in Printing Technology, and Diploma in Library and Information Science.

 

The Rector has ensured the provision of resources for the accreditations of some courses and as well paid for inspection by the NBTE of the following programs: Diploma in Building Technology, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Engineering Technology; Architectural Technology, Forestry, Fishery, Printing Technology and Animal Health and Production Technology.

 

He has proposed new HND programs in Microbiology and Biochemistry. And have secured the opportunity to commencement the following Degree Programs: B. An English, B.A Mass Communication, B.A Business Education; B.Sc. Accountancy, B.Sc. Economics and B.Sc. Banking and Finance.

 

To actualize this dream, Prof. Umar has sponsored forty-nine (49) PhD lecturers; 14 were backed, while 35 are still ongoing with their studies. Moreso, a total of one hundred and thirty-seven lecturers, were sponsored to pursue their Master’s Degree Programs, out of which 17 were back, and 120 are still ongoing with their studies.

 

Therefore, for the above mentioned few achievements of Prof. Ibrahim Umar, the good people of Adamawa State will be happy if our workaholic Governor of Adamawa State.

 

Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri will reconsider and passionately renew his tenure to complete the good work he has started in the school. Notably, the newly introduced Degree Program is now at its toddling stage.
