FACT-CHECK: Videos show Messrs Ishaku Abbo, Grokoki lied against Fintiri, Adamawa Governor, in electronic voting claim.

The claim by the member representing Guyuk and Shelleng in the Nigerian House of Representatives, Gibeon Goroki, that the Governor Fintiri of Adamawa state is against electronic voting laws being proposed in the 2022 electoral amendment is false, an investigation by THE FINDER has shown.

Also untrue, our findings show is Mr Gokori’s claim that Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, via a text message to Dauda Nyampa, instructs him to relate his message to all PDP representatives from Adamawa to vote against electronic voting in Nigeria.

In his controversial Sunday post, Ishaku Abbo claims Fintiri is against electronic voting, which pits him against Atiku Abubakar, advocating for electronic voting in Nigeria.

But in a curious move, Mr Goroki claims it was a message from the Governor to his colleague in the green chamber, Dauda Nyampa, a claim Nyampa has denied via a Facebook post-Sunday afternoon.

But THE FINDER can report authoritatively today that Mr Messrs Abbo and Goroki was economical with the truth as far as this particular electronic voting is concerned.

Governor Fintiri has criticized the national assembly for throwing out the electronic voting clause in video months ago.

In his statement, Fintiri said, “ you say the direction of the national assembly on the E-voting and E transmission of results of the 2023 election is so shameful, you cannot be doing laws for yourself, the whole world is moving towards technology we cannot be behind, everything in this country has gone technological wise, from the banking sector to ever you think in this country, nobody has complained, why we there reject when it comes to election, you are telling the whole world clearly that I want to rig an election that is the message.”

In the video air by channels tv, sighted by this newspaper, Mr Goroki, contrary to what his claims, did not provide evidence to back his claim that Fintiri via a text message to Nyampa instructed PDP reps from Adamawa to vote against electronic voting.

Our findings showed that Fintiri supported electronic voting and the transmission of election results electronically before the passage of the 2022 electoral act.

Fintiri is right

In his response to the national assembly when the current national assembly threw out the E transmission of results clause, Mr Fintiri’s complaint to his party board of trustee led by Jibrin in government house yola had explained that the current national assembly wants the 2023 elections to be rig as Nigerians are not against e-voting or e transmission of the result of 2023.

CONCLUSION: Mr Ishaku Abbo’s Facebook does not support his claim that Governor Fintiri of Adamawa state is against e-voting or e transmission of results; instead, it was Abbos party, the APC, that rejected the electronic voting platform after much pressure from the opposition PDP and the CSO.

Video reviewed by this newspaper indicates that Fintiri supports electronic voting.

Messrs Ishaku Abbo and Gibeon Goroki has again been caught on another web of lies as their claims via Facebook has not supported their claims that Fintiri is against e-voting and e transmission of results.
