Madagali state constiuency: Fintiri won’t interfere – PDP chieftain

A chieftain of the people’s democratic party has described unfair and ridiculous criticisms of Governor Umaru Fintiri’s apparent disinterest in the upcoming Adamawa state constituency PDP primary election for madagali local government in some quarters.

Mr Zidapo, the chairman of the party in Madagali local government of Adamawa state, stated this in a statement in Yola on Monday.

The party chieftain reacted to a media report that wrongfully assumed that the “Governor is in a dilemma over his cousin and his inlaw regarding the state constituency PDP primary.”

Zidapo cautioned against “a lot of the hate-spewing, incitement to violence and the polarizing statements by so-called opinion writers and imaginary columnists in the media.

“The democratic credentials of the Governor can speak for him; he midwives the national party convention which was adjudged as the freest in PDP history, same also happen in Osun as the party chairman for governorship primary.

Governors and politicians in Nigeria were known to interfere and run family and friends’ governments, which is why party members appear to be upset that the same thing is not happening now. Still, Governor Fintiri is a different kind of leader.

“He swore to defend the constitution and will not veer off from that. The constitution of the PDP gives the Governor no such powers.

“Party members in states need to be reminded that they need to work hard to earn their people’s votes, rather than expect Governor Fintiri to manipulate primary.

The PDP chieftain assured that under Governor Fintiri, the PDP primary had been and would be utterly independent throughout the elections, free from any interference.

He added, “Governor Fintiri is a man of conviction, and manipulating election results goes against everything he stands for”.
