FACT-CHECK: Ishaku Abbo wrong again; AG Vision is responsible for grading of Mararaba Mubi road.

The Senator representing Adamawa north in the red chamber of the National Assembly is not responsible for the grading and rehabilitation of Mararaba Mubi road in the Hong local government area of Adamawa as recently claimed by Ishaku Abbo.

The senator, Ishaku Abbo, made the claims on October 25th via his Facebook page.

“I have heard the cries regarding the bad condition of Mararaba to Mubi road and I have discussed with the contractor handling the road to move to site immediately for remedial measures.

Grading machines are currently on site for remedial measures.

The pictures below show work in progress.

God bless you and Thankyou for your patience as we work hard to get funding for Yola – Mubi road after the withdrawal of NNPC Funding. Mr. Abbo later defended his claim on social media”.

Coming at a time of the severely dilapidated nature of the road, the comment appeared aimed at reassuring an increasingly disenchanted public.

But that claim is entirely false, as Ishaku Abbo has no hands or influence on the rehabilitation of MararabaMubi road that is currently being graded by AG Vision through the federal comptroller of works, THE finder examination shows.

In November 2016, the Federal Ministry for works awarded the contract of Mararaba Mubi contract to AG Vision, it is the duty of the construction company to rehabilitate any part of the roads as far as this contract is concerned.

In examining Abbo’s claim, THE FINDER will rely on data from the federal ministry for works, an agency responsible for the rehabilitation of Mararaba Mubi road.

The data from the federal ministry for works exclusively seen by this newspaper showed that the Federal comptroller for works after a complaint from the Adamawa ministry for works regarding the dilapidated nature of the Mararaba Mubi road ask the contractor AG Vision to grade parts of the road and makes it motorable as the contract progress.

Nigerians react

Mr Abbo’s claim was roundly rejected on social media, with many users pointing at the Federal government for being responsible for the rehabilitation of the Mararaba Mubi road not Ishaku Abbo.

Mr Muchala, a resident and constituent of Abbo faulted the Senator’s claim admonishing him to show a project he singles handily financed not hiding on the cover of others to lay claims to the sweat of other people.

He said Abbo’s focus should be on improving Adamawa north constituency with his position as their representative rather than making “claims that will only distract us from addressing challenges in the senatorial district.”

Conclusion:

Ishaku Abbo’s claim of mobilizing contractors to rehabilitate the Mararaba Mubi is false.
