FACT CHECK: Ishaku Abbo lied, Adamawa government charges 3000 thousand for Adamawa outbound cattle. 

A Facebook post of Ishaku Abbo, the Senator representing Adamawa North in the Nigerian Senate claimed that Governor Umaru Fintiri have killed the Cattle market in Mubi by the 5000 naira tax per cow imposed on cattle dealers in the state. 

Abbo is known for his notoriety in laying claims to several projects initiated by the state government or the Federal government in Adamawa, several fact checks have punctured his claims.

Following reports of Abbo’s cattle tax claims, a couple of media houses published stories with misleading reports about the false claims of cattle dealers paying 5000 naira per cattle in Adamawa.

VERIFICATION

Checks by TheFinder revealed that the cattle tax in Adamawa is 3000 naira for cattle going outside the state is not applicablde to cattle sold within the state.

In November 2022, the Senator’s Facebook post partly read as follows:

” MUBI COW MARKET IS DESTROYED BY FINTIRI DUE TO HIS HIKE ON TAXES OF OVER N5,000.00 PAR COW-HEAD. 

A MARKET THAT WAS LOADING OFF OVER 200 TRAILERS OF COWS NOW LOADS JUST 4 TRAILERS. 

MUBI COW MARKET HAS BEEN MOVED TO MAIDUGURI AND WITH THE OPENING OF THE GAMBARU NGALA COW MARKET OUR FAITH IS DOOMED. 

VERDICT

The Facebook post of Ishaku Abbo claiming cattle tax in Adamawa is 5000 and that Fintiri has destroyed the Mubi cattle market by tax on Adamawa outbound cattle is false and misleading as claimed.
