‘We Gave Our Best’, Buhari Thanks Ministers, State House Staff
The President, who will pass over to Bola Tinubu, the President-Elect, on May 29, said he is glad that he and his cabinet given their all to Nigerians.
The President congratulated all ministers for their tenacity in achieving the administration’s aims during a valedictory session of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the State House Council Chamber, advocating support for the next President.
“I am proud to say we gave our best,” the President said, according to a statement provided by his spokesman, Femi Adesina.
The President instructed the ministers to tidy up their work and prevent last-minute rushes that could jeopardise their years of hard work.
“Over the course of our years together, ranging from our newest addition to the team’s oldest members, we have disagreed on many issues.” I urge us to recognise that those stances were taken for the greater good, and no one should hold grudges or carry these disagreements forward.
“For those of us who will not be directly in government, of which I am one, I ask that we continue to provide our support, in whatever way we can, if called upon by our great party, All Progressives Congress (APC), that gave us the platform to stand and we must continue to support it in every way we can,” he said.
The President ascribed all of the administration’s outstanding work and goodwill to God’s intervention, adding, “I also thank God for the strength and for keeping us together.”
“I will also be relieved to be able to do many of the things I have been unable to do since May 29th, 2015, one of which is my favourite pastime of caring for my cattle.”
“I wish us all the best and hope to hear good news whenever any of our names come up.” Thank you very much, and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.
