Court Upholds Ayu’s PDP Suspension

A Benue State High Court has upheld the suspension of former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu.

Ayu was suspended by his Nyorov council ward exco in March for failing to pay dues, therefore ending his tenure as PDP National Chairman.

The ward exco also accused Ayu of anti-party activity, prompting them to vote no confidence in him.
Vanger Dooyum, the party’s secretary in Igyorov ward at the time, said Ayu’s anti-party activities, along with those of his friends, contributed to the PDP’s loss in his ward and local government in the governorship race.
They also claimed that the PDP chieftain did not vote in the March 18, 2023 gubernatorial and state assembly elections.

According to them, the majority of Ayu’s closest associates worked for the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC), resulting in the PDP’s dismal showing in Igyorov Ward.
Twelve of the seventeen members of the exco signed the documentation approving his suspension.
