Governor Fintiri, base your major appointments on the guber results from the units, wards, and council.
Governor Fintiri’s four-year reign in Adamawa comes to an end as he takes the oath of office as governor for the next four years in Adamawa. Prior to this, there had been heated national debates about Fintiri’s accomplishments or scorecard in Adamawa State.
He has spent the most weeks of his time in office as governor in the last four years launching projects, some of which have earned him praise even from his harshest detractors. Fintiri, charmed with these infrastructure footprints, will leave the Adamawa better than he found it in 2019.
This is easily supported by evidence. Stark realities reveal the unmistakable imprints of Fintiri’s leadership in the last four years. Fintiri rode to power on a wave of great goodwill, his redeeming pledges to build the Adamawa of our dreams have come true;
without a doubt, insecurity was the most difficult problem he inherited. The entire state was laced with the activities of the Shila lads who were enjoying a field day in the state, a threat he put a stop to. Massive road construction, flyovers, and other social facilities were not overlooked.
However, the situation in Adamawa during the just finished election is the polar opposite of the development brought to the state by the governor; the election itself must be examined by all PDP members in Adamawa state.
During the recent PDP stakeholder meeting in Adamawa State Government House, I supported the governor’s assertions. Fintiri was direct when he told the august gathering that their commitment to the party will determine who would be appointed to his government this time.
The governor needs to say nothing more than what he informed PDP members, and that is the only portion that needs to be said. However, the stakeholder conference suggested by the governor may not bring out those with genuine electoral importance in Adamawa’s 21 councils. We all know that those stakeholders who were unable to successfully deliver their units, wards, and councils will use the governor’s name to threaten others or force the appointment of their preferred candidate.
A certain local government in the state has shown allegiance to the governor and party; yet, their stakeholder meetings are usually riddled with deception and intimidation by people claiming to be affiliated with the governor.
Because I applauded the governor for these laudable intentions, I would like to advise that the governor to follow the lead of President Tinubu and previous governor Nyesom Wike, who make appointments based on unit, ward, and council election results.
The governor should not consider technocrats for this position, as those he appoints now will try to bring in his successor in 2027. Despite the fact that Lalong, the former governor of Plateau, was the president’s director general throughout the campaign and was also pursuing the SGF position, President Tinubu appointed Akume based on votes from Benue.
Tinubu chose Akume because he knows he will deliver Benue State come rain or shine. This time, Your Excellency, sir, you must choose core politicians with electoral value. You tried some technocrats, and they failed miserably.
This time, try politicians, keeping in mind that the key criteria will be on the results sheets from their particular units, wards, and council regions. Those that won in their units and wards, in my opinion, should be appointed.
The governor’s recommended stakeholder meeting is fine, however the outcomes of the election results from units must be presented must be examined by the governor. Even the future SA should be centred on their units rather than Facebook warriors.
Those who betray the governor by watching as the opposition inflated results in their local government can be readily tracked down and removed by the governor. Finally, the governor must understand that the 2027 election has begun in earnest, and that appointing those hiding behind technocrats will result in a replay of the heinous incident of the 2023 election.
