Kidnapped Nasarawa Students Regain Freedom
The seven abducted students from Nasarawa State’s Federal University of Lafia (FULAFIA) were released four days ago. On Sunday night, the students were freed thanks to a joint operation by the military and other security agencies.
The news was confirmed during a phone interview with Channels Television by Ibrahim Ogabo, president of the Student Representative Council. At the time this complaint was being filed, the group of students, which included three females and four males, were at the school’s clinic.
Students protested immediately after the kidnapping that happened on Wednesday night when they were taken from their off-campus housing in Gandu village.
The protesters called for more security in the area and demanded the release of their fellow marchers. Among the six nearby villages, Gandu village is particularly prominent among students.
The institution does not provide housing for the more than 6,000 students in levels 300 to 500, thus it serves as an alternative. Students, locals, and businesses in Gandu have all felt the effects of the kidnappings and robberies that have plagued the city.
