civil service “cash and carry” mentality will end-Chairman
On Wednesday in Abuja, the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission, Prof. Tunji Olaopa, announced that the “cash and carry” syndrome in civil service appointments and promotions is about to come to a close.
After President Bola Tinubu inaugurated his team at the Presidential Villa, he told reporters this.The President’s Renewed Hope Agenda would serve as a compass for the 12 member committee, he added, while they carried out their responsibilities to the Nigerian public service.
Olaopa announced that the panel would reposition the government agency as an example of honesty and effectiveness.
‘’The charges of employment racketeering are deeply troubling. The founders of the commission, who were prominent figures in the civil service during its heyday, had the vision that the commission would serve as an example of the service’s commitment to honesty and transparency.
We will collaborate with intelligence and security agencies to find scapegoats because the commission’s credibility is tarnished by its handling of cash and bribes. We shall introduce the civil service commission to a fresh face. He promised that restoring institutional values to Nigeria’s public service would be their first order of business.
According to Olaopa, the new board would reorganise the government agency and make it more effective and efficient so that the public get better services. We need to bring the civil service up to speed with technological advancements, restore professionalism, and put it in a position to assist the government in delivering what it promises.
“We seek a commission that, in all it does, upholds the public service’s esteemed value.”Dr. Husseini Adamu, who is responsible for Niger and the Federal Capital Territory, said that the newly appointed members are prepared to immediately begin working to improve the efficiency of the service.
The board is filled with experienced administrators and technocrats who will implement the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration. The government may be proud of the service because of our extensive and varied background. Says Adamu.
He also promised to look out for the interests of all Nigerians, not only the people he serves in Niger and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Dr. Chamberlain Nweke, Dr. Daudu Jalo, Obong Ededet Eyoma, Shehu Aliyu, and Festus Oyebade are the newly appointed 12 members of the commission, which includes Prof. Tunji Olaopa, who serves as chairman.
Plus, Rufus Godwin, Aminu Nabegu, Odekunle Aduke, Princess Sarah Sosan, Dr. Adamu Hussein, and Hindatu Abdullahi are all present.
