Tinubu: We are remaking Nigeria with the support of NASS.
On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu said the National Assembly, led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House Speaker Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, is supporting his administration’s economic reforms.
President Tinubu said at a colloquium in Abuja to celebrate the Senate President’s 61st birthday that the administration and legislature will work together to solve Nigeria’s problems.
“Having Senate President Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Right Honourable Abbas, on my side is enough for me to succeed, and we will succeed,” Special Adviser Ajuri Ngelale reported the president as saying.
President Tinubu said the Senate President has always been committed to national development, starting as a commissioner in Akwa Ibom State, where he studied Lagos, drew up a blueprint, and implemented it as a two-term Executive Governor.
“I trust Senator Godswill Akpabio.” God’s plan for his life is being followed. He was a commissioner while I was Lagos State governor from 1999 to 2007.
As a commissioner, he was pretty interested in what was going on in Lagos.” I had no notion he wanted governorship. He greatly improved Akwa Ibom as governor, the president added.
President Tinubu noted how Senator Akpabio’s economic and social accomplishments as governor helped develop the state, noting that his drainage system saved many lives and livelihoods.
Senate President Bukola Saraki thanked President Tinubu for his visionary leadership, which was evident in recent decisions to improve security and the economy.
“You are the only president who has said someone like me can make a difference as Senate President.”
“The National Assembly is not an executive extension. Senator Akpabio said, “Mr. President, there is no country where investors have not raced to meet with you.” President Tinubu recognised this first.
The Senate President told the President, “We did not come for a boxing match.” We came to change Nigeria.” The National Assembly will work with him to build the country.
The Speaker of the House praised the President for articulating his National Assembly economic programme without “impulsive measures.”
The keynote speaker, Olisa Agbakoba (SAN), complimented the President for his courage and devotion in setting the nation on the path to progress and recovery with inventive ideas and recruiting talented officials.
