FG To Inaugurate Minimum Wage Committee Tuesday

The federal government will soon appoint a 37-person Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage with the task of proposing a new minimum wage for the entire country.

The committee’s planned induction follows President Bola Tinubu’s permission.

Segun Imohiosen, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, said that in a statement on Sunday.

The inauguration is set to happen at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa, State House, Abuja, on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at noon.

Bukar Aji, a former head of the Federation’s civil service, is chairing a committee that includes representatives from the federal, state, and private sectors as well as organised labour. The committee’s members are as follows:

The following individuals are representing the federal government: Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, Minister of State, Labour, and Employment (representing the Hon. Minister of Labour and Employment); Mr. Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy; Alhaji Atiku Bagudu, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning; Dr. (Mrs.) Yemi Esan, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation; Dr. Nnamdi Maurice Mbaeri, Permanent Secretary, GSO, OSGF; and Ekpo Nta, Esq., Chairman/CEO, NSIWC,

In addition, the following state officials are representing their respective regions: Alh. Mohammed Umar Bago, governor of Niger state (North Central), Sen. Bala Mohammed, governor of Bauchi state (North East), Alh. Umar Dikko Radda, governor of Katsina state (North West), professor Charles Soludo, governor of Anambra state (South East), senator Ademola Adeleke, governor of Osun state (South West), and governor Otu Bassey Edet, governor of Cross River State (South West).

Members of the Nigeria Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (NACCIMA) include Asiwaju (Dr.) Michael Olawale-Cole, National President; Hon. (Dr.) Ahmed Rabiu, National Vice President; and Chief Humphrey Ngonadi (NPOM), National Life President; and others from the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) include Adewale-Smatt Oyerinde, Director-General of NECA, Mr. Chuma Nwankwo, and Mr. Thompson Akpabio.

Dr Abdulrashid Yerima, President and Chairman of Council of the National Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (NASME), Hon. Theophilus Nnorom Okwuchukwu, Private Sector Representative; Dr. Muhammed Nura Bello, Zonal Vice President, North West; and from the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Mrs. Grace Omo-Lamai, Human Resource Director of Nigerian Breweries; Segun Ajayi-Kadir, MAN; and Lady Ada Chukwudozie, Managing Director of Dozzy Oil and Gas Limited, are also members of NASM

The following members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) are associated with organised labour: Professor Theophilius Ndukuba, Comrade Benjamin Anthony, Comrade Ambali Akeem Olatunji, Comrade Prince Adeyanju Adewale, Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja, mni, and Comrade Joe Ajaero, president of the NLC.

The following individuals are members of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC): President, Comrade (Engr) Festus Osifo; Vice President I, Comrade Tommy Etim Okon, PhD; Vice President II, Comrade Kayode Surajudeen Alakija; Vice President III, Comrade Jimoh Oyibo; Secretary-General, Comrade Nuhu A. Therefore, members should arrive at the security gate early to receive their clearance and be seated in the council room by 11:30 a.m. Members can also take advantage of a shuttle service that will pick them up at the Pilot Gate and drop them off at the venue.
