Alleged Terrorism: Tukur Mamu Seeks Transfer From DSS Custody To Kuje Prison
Tukur Mamu, an alleged terrorist negotiator now on trial for terrorism-related charges, has requested to be released from Department of State Service (DSS) custody at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
He asked Justice Inyang Ekwo to change the remand order against him to one that would place him in Kuje Prison rather than DSS custody.
Through his attorney Abdul Mohammed, Mamu said at the start of his trial that the DSS had not followed the court’s December 19, 2023, ruling giving him access to his doctor for medical care.
Mohammed said in his notice move that Mamu had one encounter with the doctor, when he sent the DSS a report outlining a thorough medical checkup.
Mamu said that since the report was submitted, the doctor has not been able to see him and that he needs emergency surgery at any county hospital.
The accused further said that if he was not transferred from DSS custody to Kuje jail, his health has since worsened and he might die at any time.
He said he could only testify if alive and pledged to regularly attend the terrorism accusations trial.
May 20 was then set by the judge for the decision.
