Passport fraud lands immigration officer in seven years in jail
A Federal Capital Territory High Court in Apo has given immigration officer Quadri Adeyinka a seven-year term for passport fraud.
Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie arraigned Adeyinka on four counts pertaining to cheating, conferring corrupt benefit, and gratification in violation of the Penal Code Act and the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.
Adeyinka in particular was alleged to have refused to accept N100,000 from one Ovie Ojeffia in order to have his passport regularised.
After the victim petitioned the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, the convict was investigated and brought before the court.
Acting Director, Public Enlightenment and Education, Demola Bakare of the commission stated in a statement on Sunday that the judge found him guilty of all the charges brought against Adeyinka.
Part of the statement said, “One Quadri Ismail Adeyinka, a staff member of the Nigeria Immigration Service, has been found guilty of a travel passport fraud by the ICPC.
“The Federal Capital Territory High Court, Apo, Abuja, convict was arraigned by the Commission on four counts.
During the trial, ICPC counsel Dr. Osuobeni Ekoi Akponimisingha presented evidence to the court detailing how Mr. Adeyinka had scammed Mr. Ovie Justice Ojeffia by posing as the latter’s international passport regularizer.
“In his ruling, Justice Onwuegbuzie found Mr. Adeyinka guilty on all four counts and sentenced him to seven years each for counts 1 and 2, five years for count 4, and two years for count 3.
The sentences have to flow one after the other.
