NMDPRA advises Nigerians not to panic about ‘dirty fuel’ allegations.
The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has stated that it takes its job to monitor and regulate the country’s midstream and downstream petroleum industries seriously.
Ogbugo Ukoha, NMDPRA Executive Director, Distribution Systems, Storage, and Retail Infrastructure, confirmed this in a statement on Tuesday.
Ukoha was responding to Dangote Refinery’s charges that certain large oil marketers are importing contaminated fuel into the country.
He added that the sulphur level of products imported into the country is substantially lower than the 50 parts per million (PPM) statutory limit. He stated that the administration vigorously enforces compliance with the PPM by all importers and refiners.
The authority urged Nigerians not to worry, as the products on the market are safe to consume.
Ukoha also revealed that the Authority met with marketers and refiners on Tuesday to provide a level playing field between independent importers and domestic refiners in order to maintain supply stability under a stable price regime.
