Rivers Issue: Allies of Wike Ask Fubara to Accept Responsibility, Quit Placing Blame

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has been under fire from political allies of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike for holding the minister responsible for the Tuesday explosion in Port Harcourt.

Speaking under the “Rivers Leaders Forum” banner, the MPs voiced their dismay at the minister’s recurrent charges.

Senator Olaka Wogu, the head of the organisation, said it was ludicrous to connect the explosion to people who took part in a sympathy walk for Wike because the explosion site was not on their path.

Senator Wogu pleaded with Governor Fubara to accept accountability for safeguarding state property and life.

Concerning the debate over the declaration of an emergency, Senator Wogu urged the governor to follow the law.

He once more attacked the creation of caretaker committees for local government administration, saying that the move goes against the modified legislation that the Martin Amaewhule-led House of Assembly ratified.

Wogu further said the action was an insult to President Bola Tinubu, who had incorporated a provision in his peace agreement that forbade caretaker committees in the state.

Speaking as well was Emeka Woke, the former Chief of Staff to Wike and Director-General of the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency, who questioned why Adaeze Oreh, the state commissioner for health, reportedly assumed police duties in managing the explosion situation.

The press briefing also featured former Rivers State House of Assembly Speaker Ikuinyi-Owaji Ibani, former House of Representatives member Ken Chikere, former State House of Assembly member Josiah Olu, and former State Government Secretary Kenneth Kobani.

Another is Wisdom Wakama; others include former Commissioner for Health Sampson Parker; former Executive Director of Finance and Administration at NDDC Henry Ogiri.
