Tinubu Meets With Govs On Minimum Wage, Economy
Governors of the 36 Federation states and ministers met with President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kassim Shettima on Thursday to discuss various economic issues including a new minimum wage for workers in the nation.
In the Council Chamber of the State House in Abuja, the capital of the country, the President and the governors convened for the 141st meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC).
Before the President arrived, the Vice President led a meeting with state governors, deputy governors, and ministers.
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) halted a minimum wage review memo two days ago to facilitate additional comments.
Governors meeting in Abuja on Wednesday under the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) reassured Nigerians that continuing talks between the government, the private sector, and organised labour will result in higher salaries.
The President had promised the Organised Labour in his Democracy Day speech on June 12, 2024, that the National Assembly would shortly receive an executive law establishing the new national minimum wage for workers.
On the ₦62,000 government and private sector plan and Labour’s ₦250,000 demand, the President is supposed to decide.
