FG To Spend $21m On Metre Installation In 187 Niger Delta Crude Oil Flow Stations
A project to install metres at all 187 crude oil flow stations in the Niger Delta has been approved by the Federal Executive Council, costing $21 million.
The initiative’s goal, according to Minister Heineken Lokpobiri, was to make sure that the country’s crude oil production was accurately recorded via digital platforms. Lokpobiri made the announcement at a media briefing in Abuja on Friday.
Lokpobiri further stated that a system to monitor the whereabouts of all crude oil ships, from their departure from the Niger Delta to their eventual destinations throughout the globe, is a component of this digital plan.
“Among the important decisions made by the Federal Executive Council on Wednesday was the awarding of a contract to the Nigerian Upstream Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) for the metering of approximately 187 flow stations distributed throughout the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.
When it comes to upstream oil and gas in Nigeria, NUPRC is where it’s at. The Federal Executive Council authorised the metering of all production, and there are currently 177 flow stations spread out across the Niger Delta region as part of our efforts to guarantee appropriate accountability.
A contract was granted to us to measure all flow stations, which will allow us to accurately track our production and exports. There has never been anything like this in this country before.
The Minister has said that the target completion date for this project is 180 days, or six months.
Additionally, Lokpobiri revealed that the FEC had authorised a different document concerning “advance cargo,” a system that monitors the movement of goods from the time they are loaded at ports until they reach their final destination.
According to him, “the second memo that was approved by council has to do with what we call advance cargo,” which involves awarding a contract to a company that can supply the technology within the same period (180 days) to track every cargo of crude oil from Nigeria all the way to its destination.
He elaborated by saying this will guarantee digital monitoring of cargo loading all the way to delivery.
