We recovered nearly N13 billion in diverted funds in September 2024 – ICPC.
The ICPC recovered almost ₦13 billion in misappropriated public funds in September 2024 alone.
Musa Aliyu, Chairman of the ICPC, revealed this at the unveiling of the commission’s 2024-2028 strategic action plan in Abuja on Wednesday.
Aliyu did not divulge the exact source of the cash’ recovery but underlining that the anti-corruption organisation has worked relentlessly to carry out its mandate.
In September 2024, the ICPC recovered about ₦13 billion in misdirected public funds. “This is just one of the many ways we have worked tirelessly to carry out our mandate,” Aliyu stated.
The ICPC chairman also revealed that the Commission is digitising its operations, which he claims will position it as a pioneer in using technology to combat corruption.
“We are also implementing ICT reforms to digitalise our operations and enable more efficient investigations, case management, and internal processes.
“This transformation will position the Commission as a leader in leveraging technology to combat corruption, keeping us one step ahead of criminal activities in the digital age.”
Similarly, he stated that the commission is building a specific curriculum to improve the enforcement capacity of its personnel.
“This effort provides our officers with the skills and expertise required to handle the complexities of corruption cases with the utmost professionalism and efficiency.
“We are also decentralising the anti-corruption fight by empowering state governments through the mobilisation of State Attorneys General.
He went on: “This approach equips state governments with the necessary tools, knowledge, and resources to effectively combat corruption at the local level.”
Noting that prevention is better than cure, Aliyu stated that the ICPC has increased efforts to identify institutional and administrative vulnerabilities through system studies and corruption risk assessments.
“We have also continued to engage with the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Units (ACTUs) in Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), reinforcing our grassroots monitoring mechanisms,” he told me.
