NJC Suspends Rivers, Anambra High Court Judges
The National Judicial Council (NJC) has suspended Justice G. C. Aguma of the High Court of Rivers State and Justice A.O. Nwabunike of the Anambra State High Court from performing judicial functions.
Both of them received a one-year unpaid suspension and a two-year watch list placement.
On November 13 and 14, 2024, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, chaired the 107th Meeting of the NJC and made the decision.
For various acts of misconduct, 5 serving judicial officers received sanctions.
The Council also recommended that two Heads of Court be forced to retire due to age falsification.
The Council equally considered the report of its Preliminary Complaints Assessment Committee, which examined a total of 30 petitions and appointed 6 committees for further investigation. The Council dismissed 22 petitions for lack of merit and subjudiced two others.
The Council also empanelled a committee to investigate all complaints and petitions against Hon. Justice O. A. Ojo, Chief Judge, Osun State.
