Governor Sanwo-Olu signs the Lagos Electricity Bill into law.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has signed the Lagos Electricity Bill into law.

The event was attended by the state deputy governor, Kadri Hamzat, members of the state assembly, and state executive council members at Lagos House in Alausa, Ikeja.

Governor Sanwo-Olu praised the state House of Assembly for expediting the bill’s approval, emphasising that it will transform the socioeconomic status of Lagos State’s residents.

He stated that after years of labour, the electrical bill has now been completed, providing Lagosians with a stable power source.

Biodun Ogunleye, the state Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, indicated that the recently enacted power bill will give Lagos State with an extra grid and put an end to the state’s blackouts.

“A regular power supply will now be available.” “Host a community development trust fund, which will provide opportunities for communities to develop power plants,” he stated.

Ogunleye emphasised that the government’s decision is a sign of progress that would ensure an uninterrupted electricity supply in Lagos State.

The Lagos State Electricity Law 2024 is a detailed strategy that demonstrates Governor Sanwo-Olu’s determination to address long-standing energy sector concerns.

The law will provide a solid platform for economic growth by promoting industrial expansion, improved quality of life, energy justice, economic success, and environmental sustainability.

Among other things, the legislation aims to develop a technically sound, financially successful, and well-regulated Lagos power Market, as well as to ensure that all residents have access to cheap, dependable, and sustainable power.

It also helps to Lagos State’s long-term growth by supporting varied energy sources, such as renewable energy, increasing energy efficiency, boosting investment, competition, and innovation in the electrical sector, and electrifying underprivileged communities.
