NCAA threatens to sanction airlines for delayed ticket refunds.
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) said it would penalise airlines that delay ticket refunds.
According to Michael Achimugu, the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, ticket refund compliance is an important aspect of the agency’s consumer protection strategy.
According to Achimugu, the relocation adheres to Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations of 2023.
“Going forward, AIRLINES THAT FAIL TO PAY REFUNDS WITHIN THE TIMEFRAME STIPULATED BY THE NCAA REGULATIONS 2023 WILL BE SANCTIONED,” said the commissioner.
He emphasised that prompt reimbursements for cash purchases are necessary. You must refund tickets acquired using electronic transfer, mobile applications, internet banking, and other methods within 14 days.
“This is not exaggeration. The NCAA’s Consumer Protection Department has made significant efforts to educate passengers and safeguard operators’ businesses. Achimugu remarked that it is time for airlines to reciprocate the regulator’s good faith and help.
“Our CPOs have been instructed not to pursue airlines for compliance with the regulations. We shall impose suitable punishments in any event of noncompliance.
No airline will say it did not receive a listening ear. The Authority has remained balanced.
“We apologise to passengers whose reimbursements have taken longer than required. It’s not ideal. Personally, I am actively reviewing the regulations to decrease the term to seven days. It’s feasible. Nigerian passengers demand top-notch service.
“The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, @fkeyamo, and the Ag. DGCA, Capt. Chris Najomo, have supported domestic airlines significantly.”
