FG has not scrapped visa on arrival, says PEBEC

Princess Zahrah Mustapha Audu, Director General of the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC), stated on Tuesday that the Federal Government has not removed the visa-on-arrival policy.

Audu said in a statement that she met with the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in Abuja to discuss the Visa on Arrival process and was assured that the policy will not be discontinued.

“The meeting aimed to address concerns and clarify the government’s stance on the VOA initiative” , her statement read.

The statement stated that “during the meeting, the Minister of Interior reassured the DG that the Visa on Arrival process is not being abandoned, but rather upgraded to improve efficiency and effectiveness.” This initiative aligns with PEBEC’s aim to simplify procedures and reduce bureaucratic barriers to conducting business in Nigeria.

“The Minister also stated that tourists will be able to apply online for short-stay visas, with approvals provided within 24 to 18 hours. Once granted, the visa will be delivered to the applicant’s email address, removing the requirement for a physical sticker upon arrival. This improvement streamlines the online approval procedure and allows passengers to receive approvals ahead of time.

“This improved system intends to eliminate inefficiencies, allowing Nigeria to better automate and control the flow of travellers. With this upgrading, the country takes another step towards enhancing its business environment and attracting foreign investment.”
