FCCPC Directs MultiChoice To Suspend Fee Hike
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has ordered MultiChoice Nigeria, the operator of DStv and GOtv, to preserve current subscription prices until the outcome of an ongoing inquiry into the company’s proposed tariff change.
The FCCPC announced this in a statement issued on Thursday by its Director of Corporate Affairs, Ondaje Ijagwu.
The instruction followed MultiChoice’s request for an extension of its scheduled appearance before the commission due to concerns about its periodic pricing rises.
Although the FCCPC granted the company’s request to postpone the session, the hearing has been set for March 6, 2025, and will include the company’s CEO, key executives, and a thorough answer to the investigation.
“As part of this directive, MultiChoice is expressly instructed to maintain the existing price structure as of February 27, 2025, pending the commission’s review and final determination on the matter,” according to the statement.
The agency also stated that the move to freeze pricing is intended to prevent possible consumer exploitation throughout the investigation phase.
The regulator had already invited MultiChoice’s CEO to appear before it on February 27 for an investigative hearing.

While the corporation argued that the adjustments were necessary to continue offering world-class programming, subscribers expressed concerns.
The proposed modification will boost the DStv Compact package while keeping the Compact Plus and Premium bouquets at N30,000 and N44,500, respectively.
In a notice titled “Price Adjustments for DStv and GOtv Packages,” the business stated, “Dear Customer, please be advised that all DStv packages will be subject to a price adjustment beginning March 1, 2025.
