Fubara falls to pressure; invites 27 pro-Wike MPs to a meeting.
The political situation in Rivers State took a new turn on Sunday, when Governor Siminalayi Fubara summoned the Amaewhule-led House of Assembly members to a meeting.
The remark was contained in a letter sent in Port Harcourt on Sunday by Dr. Tammy Danagogo, Secretary to the State Government, and distributed to journalists.
The letter, issued to Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, was titled “Meeting Between the Governor of Rivers State and the Honourable Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.”
Danagogo noted that the meeting, scheduled for Monday, March 10, 2025, became essential after the Governor received the Certified True Copy of the Supreme Court’s decision.
The letter claimed that discussions would centre on providing a venue for MPs loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to convene their sittings, as well as the presentation of the 2025 budget, among other things.
The statement read: “I hereby write, in furtherance of His Excellency’s promise stated in my letter dated March 5, 2025, to notify you that His Excellency has received the Supreme Court judgement and has directed me to invite you and your colleagues—the honourable members of the Rivers State House of Assembly—to a meeting to discuss: “Provision of a befitting space for the Assembly’s sittings, payment of all outstanding remuneration or allowances of the Honoura
The budget and other issues will be addressed. The letter invites the Rt. Hon. Speaker and all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to a meeting with the Governor to discuss any other matters in the best interests of the state.
According to the statement, the meeting would begin at 10 a.m. on Monday at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
“Many thanks, Sir, as we look forward to your kind attendance with a view to charting the way forward in the interest of the good people of Rivers State,” the letter’s conclusion said.
