Fubara writes speaker requests to present 2025 budget.

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has officially written to the state House of Assembly, informing them of his intention to present the 2025 Appropriation Bill for discussion and approval.

Fubara’s letter, dated March 11, 2025, was sent to Speaker Martin Amaewhule and captioned “Presentation of the Rivers State 2025 Budget to the Rivers State House of Assembly.”

However, the letter was addressed to the Assembly complex on Moscow Road, which was bombed last year, rather than the legislative quarters on Aba Road, where MPs have been meeting.

The governor stated that his notification was consistent with the Supreme Court’s decision, which recognised the 27 MPs loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as the rightful legislature.

Fubara described the parliamentarians’ reluctance to accept his offer to a meeting at Government House on Monday as disappointing, and indicated that he had decided to proceed with the budget presentation after getting a certified accurate copy of the Supreme Court’s decision.

The message began with the following: “Please recall my statewide broadcast of March 2, 2025, in which I expressed our unreserved commitment to implementing the recent Supreme Court judgement on the political disputes in Rivers State as soon as the enrolled judgement orders were served on us.

“In line with our pledge, we scheduled a consultation meeting with the Rivers State House of Assembly on March 10, 2025, to address the concerns brought by the verdict and determine the best path forward for the state.Unfortunately, this essential meeting was never convened.

We have received the Certified True Copy and will promptly implement the conditions of the verdict as promised. As a result, we wish to inform Mr. Speaker of our desire and plan to bring the 2025 Rivers State Appropriation Bill before the Rivers State House of Assembly on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at 10 a.m.

“Thank you for the kind consideration of my request by the House, and please accept, Mr. Speaker, the assurance of my highest regards.”
