Rivers Administrator Promises to Complete Assembly Complex.
Ibok-Ete Ibas, Rivers State’s only administrator, has urged the contractor in charge of the State Assembly Complex project to expedite work and complete it by the deadline.
On Saturday, the administrator gave the charge while inspecting the ongoing reconstruction of the new Assembly Complex, which is located along Moscow Road in the Port Harcourt Local Government Area.
The retiring navy chief stated that part of his duty includes restoring full and effective legislative activity in the state.
The project, awarded to Monier Construction Company (MCC) Limited, has made commendable progress, with around 34 en-suite offices in a two-story building with an elevator, gallery, meeting rooms, and conference hall.
The single administrator indicated that in the last two days of taking office, he saw a missing pillar in the state’s governance structure, and he is determined to ensure that productive legislative actions continue after six months.
He went on: “I had been at the executive arm of the state governance structure, and one of the pillars that is missing for now is the legislature, and for them to function effectively, they also need a place to work from.
“And I’m not sure if the work is progressing as intended. This will make the facility ready for usage by the conclusion of the six-month timeframe.
They (the contractor) have a timetable and timelines that I expect they will want to stick to.”
According to the briefing he got, the state has fulfilled its role by providing the necessary funds, but the contractor must adhere to the rules.
The former vice admiral stressed that he was recruited in the first place to maintain law and order, allowing the state to return to its proper form.
He was accompanied by the State’s Head of Service, George Nwaeke, and led around the site by Omaka Oko, the General Manager of MCC.
