Coalition Against Tinubu Is A Dead Horse, Waste Of Time, Says Fayose

Ayo Fayose, a former governor of Ekiti State, has ridiculed the widely touted coalition of opposition political groups intended to unseat President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027, calling it a waste of time.

Fayose, a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stated on Friday that no notable Nigerian is involved in the coalition talks.

“Their partnership was a dead horse from the start. Tell me about one positive person—a well-respected Nigerian—who has spoken out in support of this coalition,” Fayose remarked on the broadcast.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai are leading the coalition; Abubakar is the PDP’s presidential contender in 2023, and El-Rufai recently defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) from the APC.

However, the former Ekiti State governor believes the coalition would fail because the PDP governors are battling for their own political survival, not Atiku’s.

“If somebody is fighting because of disagreements with his party, he can address them with his party. The acts and statements of the (PDP) governors in Ibadan are intended to convey to Atiku that we are not with you, are not going anywhere, and have our identity.

“So that coalition is only in the minds of those attempting to bring it into existence. Let me tell you, it’s a waste of time,” he stated.

He stated that the majority of opposition governors choose Tinubu over Atiku for their survival.

Fayose asserts that the PDP needs to address a fundamental issue before it can effectively challenge the ruling party.

Atiku also stated that he will not back him if he runs for president again in 2027.

“I publicly worked against Atiku, and I am stating it for the second time: if Atiku returns, I will work against him. Fayose said, “We must learn our lesson.”

The former governor blamed the PDP’s crisis on Atiku’s inability to follow the party’s zoning regulations.

“After eight years of a Northerner, it is now the turn of a Southerner. This crowd could include someone from the East, Southwest, or South-South.

“Those who gave or zoned power back to the North caused all these problems.”

“You don’t have to like a Nyesom Wike or a Peter Obi, but there should be an unwritten, respected gentleman’s understanding of powershift,” stated the former.
