Death Penalty Awaits Kidnappers in Edo–Okpebholo

Senator Monday Okpebholo, Edo State Governor, stated that kidnappers apprehended in the state will face the death sentence, specifically hanging, and expressed willingness to sign convicts’ death warrants.

Governor Okpebholo announced the news during a stakeholders’ conference at Uromi Town Hall, where he spoke with leaders and people of the Arewa community in Esan territory.

On Friday, the governor’s press secretary, Fred Itua, released a statement revealing this.

He stated that the Edo State House of Assembly had enacted legislation revising the Kidnapping Prohibition Amendment Law (and Related Matters 2013).

He stated that the bill calls for the execution of kidnappers, as well as the confiscation and demolition of the buildings utilised in their crimes.

Governor Okpebholo has stated that his administration will no longer tolerate insecurity, murders, and kidnapping in the state and will deal ruthlessly with any criminal groups.

“I take the issue of insecurity seriously and will not bend the rules but rather strictly enforce them. The new state law allows us to demolish their buildings and seize their lands. We plan to erect vigilante team offices on those lands.

“To demonstrate our sincerity, we will bring kidnappers before the public and execute them in accordance with the EDHA’s existing laws. “I won’t be afraid to sign it,” he said.

The governor urged everyone to work with his government to secure the state, adding, “Security is everyone’s responsibility, not just security agencies.”

“The type of security we want in the state is one in which the security remnants of women are paid salaries, as opposed to the previous system in which people simply put on uniforms without being compensated.” We intend to hire vigilante teams, pay them, and install mechanisms to prevent people from simply donning uniforms.

“These personnel will work with security organisations and will receive training on how to combat crime and deal with criminals. I will not wait until campaign time to resolve your issues. I will begin to address the issues confronting our people in the marketplace and elsewhere.

“It is time to begin scrutinising people from other states who claim to be from the North and guarantee they do not tarnish your reputation.” We’ll fence the market, install streetlights, and erect abattoirs for individuals who slaughter cows.”We want to secure the people of Edo State.”

Governor Okpebholo stated that President Bola Tinubu loves the North and has been very helpful in ensuring that the Uromi killing does not lead to further harm.

“The people trashing the land and causing difficulties are not even from Nigeria.” They are foreigners, but the president has promised to bring peace to Nigeria,” he explained.

Bawa Umar, the Chairman of Arewa in Edo Central, thanked the Governor and the Onojie of Uromi for the restored peace.

He said the governor is doing well with state security and that the Arewa community will help his government succeed.

Isah Muhammad, Chairman of Uromi Cattle Market, commended the governor for how he handled the Uromi incident, which he said helped to reduce tensions in the area.

Gen. Cecil Esekhaigbe (rtd) stated, “I urge the Arewa community to create a database for all of their members so that they can account for everyone. I urge leaders to advise and oversee their members’ actions to ensure they do not include criminal activity.”
