2027: PDP will lose its remaining states if Atiku runs – Anakwenze

Dr. Nwachukwu Anakwenze, a former PDP presidential candidate and ex-President of the World Igbo Congress, has warned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against fielding Alhaji Atiku Abubakar for the 2027 presidential election, predicting that the party would lose the remaining states it currently controls if it did.

During an interview in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area, Anambra State, where he recently acquired the office of Regent of the village, Anakwenze advocated for new leadership with unique ideas capable of outperforming the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He stated, “I am a member of the PDP. The PDP has challenges because people like Atiku do not want it to prosper. He is one of the party’s mainstays.”

Anakwenze underlined the importance of leaders that are “totally different and capable of driving positive change.” He complained that Nigeria, despite its enormous resources, remains underdeveloped owing to poor leadership, claiming that “the smartest people in Nigeria have not ruled the country, and that is why we are losing on all fronts.”

He also questioned the concentration of power among individuals who put tribe and religion over national benefit, claiming, “In Nigeria, only those who should be in prison make the decisions.”

Dr. Anakwenze was appointed Regent of Abagana following the death of the town’s traditional ruler, His Royal Highness Igwe Patrick Mbamalu Okeke. The Anambra State Government has formally granted him a regent certificate via the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Community Affairs.

In his statement, Anakwenze expressed his gratitude: “I would like to inform the entire world that I have been rewarded with another prominent position in my community. The excellent people of Abagana have chosen me to lead for a successful six-month period, and I vow to bring about significant change, including the inclusion of younger people in the Igwe cabinet.”

He promised to use his tenure to prepare Abagana youths for future leadership and expressed a willingness to accept full kingship if the community deemed him worthy, citing his long-standing contributions to the town’s growth.

Anakwenze also announced plans to provide scholarships for widows’ children and extend the medical outreach programs he has been doing for years, intending to turn them into community projects.

However, he has ruled out permanently relocating to Abagana if he becomes monarch, citing the community’s ability to manage its affairs on a daily basis.

“My top priority is to make Abagana one of the best communities in Anambra State. I will continue to meet my quota, and this new role will motivate me to accomplish even more,” he said.
