Oyo government acquires two aircraft to enhance security.

The Oyo State Government announced that it has purchased two planes to combat the issue of illegal miners, kidnappers, and other security threats in the state.

This was reported in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, following the weekly State Executive Council meeting.

Dotun further stated that “the procurement was approved in a renewed determination by the government to secure the state further from the influx of bandits and the perpetration of their enterprise” .

According to the commissioner, the Council highlighted that, while Oyo State is relatively peaceful in comparison to other states in the federation, the government would not be complacent because pockets of kidnapping and banditry continue to exist in the state.

Oyelade claimed that “the two light aircraft, DA 42 MNG model, were Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft, with sophisticated surveillance gadgets capable of identifying targets from high and low altitudes” .

He stated that the selection for aircraft over helicopters was due to their lower maintenance costs, availability of spare parts, and the Nigerian Air Force’s possession of a number of the model, which allows for synergy.

According to him, Oyo State has the largest acreage in southern Nigeria and is larger than ten African countries, with 28,454 square kilometres.

The two planes purchased for ₦7,763,360,000 are likely to assist Amotekun and other state security agencies in locating and apprehending robbers.

According to Oyelade, Amotekun in Oyo had the most staff — 2,500 — vehicles — 181 — and motorbikes — 450 — of any location in the South West Security Network.

According to the speaker, Amotekun employees earn the highest wages in the South West, while the lowest is ₦116,000.

The Council approved the construction of bridges, interchanges, and clearance of the North-East and South-West legs of the 110km Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road project, particularly from the Molarere, Odo-Oba, and Abiola Ajimobi Technical University axis, for ₦83,037,000,000.

It stated that 72 kilometres of the ring route will be finished by the end of this administration’s tenure in 2027.

The Council granted ₦36,346,000,000 for asphaltic improvements on Secretariat Road, Trans Amusement UI-Sango Road, and Obafemi Awolowo Stadium Road. Additionally, ₦6,801,000,000. was allowed for reconstruction of the Mobil-Oluyole Industrial Estate Road network.

The Light-up Oyo Solar Project would receive ₦595,000,000 for direct intervention and ₦190,000,000 per month for ongoing operations and maintenance.
