Fintiri mourns Buhari, hails his unwavering dedication to Nigeria’s growth and development.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a patriot and statesman whose unwavering dedication to Nigeria’s growth and development is immeasurable.

The late President Buhari passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at a hospital in the United Kingdom. He was 82.

In a solemn statement released by the governor’s press secretary, Humwashi Wonosoiku, Governor Fintiri paid tribute to the Nigerian former leader, whom he lauded for a lifetime defined by duty, honour, and an unwavering belief in Nigeria’s unity and progress.

“His commitment to national unity, particularly during the country’s most challenging periods, including the civil war, is a testament to his statesmanship and vision for a united Nigeria.

The governor noted that President Buhari’s contributions to Nigeria’s development, especially in areas such as infrastructure, agriculture, and security, are notable. He emphasised that President Buhari’s efforts to promote stability and democracy in the country will not be forgotten.

President Buhari was, to the very core, a patriot. He stood firm through turbulent times, led with quiet strength and integrity, and placed Nigeria above personal interest at every turn,” Fintiri said.

He highlighted Buhari’s dual legacy as both a former military ruler and a democratically elected president, noting his contributions to Nigeria’s development, especially in areas such as infrastructure, agriculture, and security, are notable. He emphasised that we will not forget President Buhari’s efforts to promote stability and democracy in the country.

The governor extended his condolences to the Buhari family, including the former First Lady, Aisha Buhari, whom he said is a proud daughter of Adamawa State. He urges her to take courage and bear the loss with the knowledge that she is not alone in her grief.

He prays that Allah grants her the strength to navigate this difficult period and that the family finds solace in the memories of their beloved patriarch.

Governor Fintiri prayed, “May Allah grant the late President Muhammadu Buhari Aljanatu Firdaus, and may his legacy continue to inspire future generations of Nigerians. May God comfort the family and loved ones during this difficult time.”

As the nation enters a period of official mourning, President Tinubu urged Nigerians to reflect on the legacy of a leader who, in his words, “inspired generations to serve with courage, conviction, and selflessness.”

“May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus,”.
