Remi Tinubu Sends ₦500m Aid to Flood-Hit Adamawa

The Adamawa State Government has received a ₦500 million donation and other relief materials from the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, as part of ongoing efforts to assist victims of recent flood disasters in the state.

Senator Tinubu, who also serves as the National Chairperson of the Renewed Hope Initiative, made the contribution to support over 1,800 households affected by the floods. The donation was presented during a condolence visit on her behalf by the wife of the Vice President, Nana Shettima.

The recent flood, which devastated several communities in Adamawa, claimed 29 lives, destroyed properties, and displaced thousands of residents. As part of the relief efforts, food and non-food items were also distributed to vulnerable groups across the state.

Receiving the donation, Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa Farauta expressed deep appreciation to the First Lady, describing the intervention as timely and impactful. She assured that the relief materials and funds would be distributed fairly and transparently to the affected households.

In her remarks, Nana Shettima emphasized that the ₦500 million donation, along with the relief supplies, is intended to cushion the immediate impact of the disaster and support long-term recovery efforts for affected communities.

Also speaking at the event, Managing Director of the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa), Dr. Ubom Udoh, described the gesture as a demonstration of shared commitment to restoring hope and improving the lives of Nigerians, while reinforcing the collective vision of building a more resilient and inclusive society.

As part of the visit, a Women’s Economic Empowerment Programme was also launched in partnership with the Tony Elumelu Foundation. The initiative will provide small business recapitalization grants to 500 women across Adamawa State, promoting entrepreneurship and economic independence among women.
