“Akpabio Alive and Well in London, Senator Gbenga Daniel Debunks Health Rumours”
Senator Gbenga Daniel, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy and former Governor of Ogun State, has dismissed recent media reports claiming that Senate President Godswill Akpabio is hospitalised in a London hospital.
Speaking during a courtesy visit in London, Senator Daniel said he made a stopover to personally inform the Senate President of his decision to return to Nigeria for the August 16th bye-election in Ogun State. The vacant seat in question—representing the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency—was declared open following the passing of former Deputy Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon. Adewumi Onanuga.
“I came to officially inform you, Mr. Senate President, of my return to Nigeria to participate in the bye-election for the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency,” Daniel stated. “There are rumours flying around that you’ve been unwell, but seeing you in great health here tells a very different story. Congratulations, Your Excellency.”
Responding through his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, Senate President Akpabio expressed gratitude to Senator Daniel for the visit and his commitment to the upcoming election.
Akpabio expressed confidence in the ruling party’s chances, stating, “With the full support of Governor Dapo Abiodun, your leadership, and the dedication of our party stakeholders, I’m confident we’ll retain the seat in the House of Representatives.”
Congratulating Daniel in advance, Akpabio added, “You have strong roots in that constituency, and the Governor is also from the area—there’s no reason for doubt.”
On the viral health rumours circulating online, Akpabio dismissed them with humour:
“If you listen to social media, you’ll think a war has started.”
