Nigeria Gaining Global Respect, Says President Tinubu
President Bola Tinubu says Nigeria is regaining international respect as a result of recent economic reforms and bold policy decisions.
He made this assertion on Tuesday at the State House while receiving His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Oladunni Olaoye, Orumogege III, the Soun of Ogbomosoland, who visited alongside other traditional rulers.
According to a statement released on Wednesday by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu said the country’s economy is stabilising and attracting growing interest from global partners.
“Years of neglect, fake records, smuggling, and self-deception denied Nigeria the revenue needed for progress,” Tinubu said. “We then had to confront currency arbitrage, a system based on illusions, widespread corruption, and a serious erosion of economic integrity.”
The president said decisive reforms were necessary to reverse the country’s economic decline.
“With your prayers, patience, perseverance, and great understanding, I’m glad to tell you today that the economy is stabilised. The bleeding has stopped. The haemorrhage is gone, and the patient is alive,” he said.
Tinubu highlighted the launch of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as one of his administration’s key achievements. He said the initiative ensures that no student drops out of school due to financial hardship.
“Education is the greatest weapon you can give to people to fight poverty. That’s what we are doing,” he said. “We have remained aggressive on infrastructure as well. And it’s just two years.”
The president thanked the Soun for recognising the administration’s early reforms and praised the monarch’s efforts to modernise Ogbomosoland and strengthen traditional institutions.
