Yahaya Bello hails Tinubu as angel sent by God to fix Nigeria

Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has described President Bola Tinubu as the “angel” sent by God to fix Nigeria.

Bello made the remark on Saturday during an endorsement rally for President Tinubu and Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo, broadcast by TVC.

“We will not wait for God to send an angel with wings to fly into Nigeria to fix it. Did I tell you who the angel is? The angel is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Bello said. “If you are waiting for that animation on the television, to see an angel flying with a wing to come to Nigeria to come and fix it, you will wait forever.”

He told supporters that Nigerians had long desired a “new Nigeria,” pointing to Tinubu’s policies such as the removal of the fuel subsidy, introduction of student loans, and floating of the exchange rate as evidence of progress. Bello urged citizens not to wait for miracles, saying the president was already carrying out needed reforms.

“Everybody continues to crave a new Nigeria,” he said. “Before 2015, we said we wanted a new Nigeria where there would be no oil subsidy, where there would be student loans, where the exchange rate would be floated, and where both government and individuals would have more money. We said we wanted a new Nigeria where foreign investment would continue to flow in.”

The former governor acknowledged that change takes time, citing years of systemic decay. He promised continued support for Tinubu’s administration to sustain reforms and infrastructure projects.

“Those of us who recognize that we are already in the new Nigeria see infrastructures being fixed,” Bello said. “No government can fix everything at once because of the long years of decay in the system. It will take a while, but Mr. President is fixing it, and he will fix it. We will support him to fix it.”

Bello also stressed the importance of legacy, saying leadership without lasting impact is meaningless.

“Going into the future, not only the 2027 election, we want a situation where Mr. President will leave his legacy behind, and people like us and other well-meaning Nigerians will continue to uphold it,” he said. “Leadership without legacy is zero.”

Reflecting on his own record, Bello said, “Today, I am happy. I feel fulfilled. This is my legacy. These are my legacies. Some of my legacies are watching me.”

Bello’s endorsement comes as political momentum builds ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Tinubu expected to seek a second term. Tinubu’s allies credit him with major economic and governance reforms since taking office in 2023, including fuel subsidy removal, the introduction of student loans, exchange rate unification, and policies aimed at attracting foreign investment and boosting national revenue.
