Fintiri hails Modibbo Adama university as pride of Adamawa state

Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has assured that his administration will continue to support Modibbo Adama University, Yola, to enable the institution effectively deliver on its academic mandate.

Governor Fintiri gave the assurance while delivering a speech at the university’s combined 29th and 30th convocation ceremony held at the convocation ground in Yola.

He described Modibbo Adama University as one of the state’s most cherished institutions, noting that it remains a source of pride to the people of Adamawa. According to him, the university has been a good host community partner and a dependable producer of skilled manpower for the state, the nation and beyond.

The governor commended the university management, led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibrahim Umar, for sustaining a culture of academic excellence and meaningful community service.

He said the state government recognises the importance of the institution to Adamawa’s development, stressing that “if Yola wins, Adamawa State is winning.” He added that the government would continue to support the university in fulfilling its mandate.

Governor Fintiri announced that the state government would construct a five-kilometre internal road network within the university to improve transportation and mobility on campus.

He congratulated the graduating students for their perseverance and academic success, urging them to uphold the university’s values and serve as worthy ambassadors wherever they find themselves.

The governor also congratulated the recipients of honorary doctorate degrees, including the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari; Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Edet; and Ondo State Governor, Mr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa. He prayed for God’s continued guidance and strength for them in their service to the nation and humanity.

Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of Modibbo Adama University, Professor Ibrahim Umar, said the institution, since its establishment in 1981, has remained committed to maintaining high academic standards.

He disclosed that a total of 7,094 graduands would be awarded certificates in first degrees, postgraduate degrees, diplomas and other certificates during the convocation.

Professor Umar also announced that the four distinguished personalities were conferred with honorary doctorate degrees in recognition of their contributions to national development.

He congratulated both the award recipients and the graduands, urging them to remain patriotic, disciplined and committed to serving humanity and the country.

Highlights of the ceremony included the decoration of honorary awardees, presentation of gifts and goodwill messages from various dignitaries.
