Tarfa seeks intervention on access road as FUAMB inducts 599 students

The Federal University of Agriculture, Mubi has matriculated 599 students, as senior officials used the ceremony to stress discipline, innovation and the need for urgent infrastructure support.

At the institution’s second matriculation, held on 31 March at the Sali Isa Bello Event Centre in Mubi, the university’s leadership set out its expectations for a new cohort it hopes will anchor its ambitions in practice-based agricultural training.

Welcoming students and their families, the registrar, Fatima Saidu Bashir, urged the matriculants to abide by the university’s rules and conduct themselves as responsible representatives of the institution. Discipline, she said, would be central to their academic journey.

The vice-chancellor, Bitrus Dawi Tarfa, framed the university’s direction around “smart agriculture” and innovation, calling on students to commit to punctuality, hard work and adherence to regulations. These, he said, were not only prerequisites for academic success but also for character formation.

Tarfa also turned attention to infrastructure, appealing to the Adamawa state government and other stakeholders to support the reconstruction of the access road to the university’s permanent site in Mayo Bani, which he described as being in a poor condition and a constraint to smooth movement.

The pro-chancellor and governing council chair, Rukaiyatu Abdulkarim Gurin, praised the federal government’s efforts to strengthen emerging universities, singling out policies under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the minister of education, Tunji Alausa. She also acknowledged the backing of the Adamawa state governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, alongside the cooperation of the host community.

David Finchiwa Jatau, the state commissioner for agriculture, described the university as a strategic platform for agricultural transformation in Adamawa and Nigeria, urging residents to take advantage of its programmes.

Speaking at the event, the vice-chancellor of Adamawa State University, Augustine Clement, emphasised discipline and academic focus, while commending FUAMB’s management for organising the ceremony.

A message from the Emir of Mubi, Abubakar Isa Ahmadu, delivered by Abubakar Mahmud Wambai, offered prayers for the institution’s growth and encouraged students to remain focused on acquiring both knowledge and practical skills.

The ceremony drew principal officers of the university, deans, directors, heads of departments, security officials, traditional leaders, parents and representatives of other institutions.
