New Gateway airport attracts international service as Air Peace announces UK routes
Air Peace has announced plans to commence international flight operations from London to Gateway International Airport in Ogun State this summer, marking a significant expansion of its global network.
The airline’s chief executive, Allen Onyema, disclosed the development after inspecting the airport alongside Ogun State governor Dapo Abiodun.
Onyema said the carrier would operate flights from both London Gatwick Airport and Heathrow Airport to the newly inaugurated Gateway International Airport.

“We are coming here, under the instrumentality of his invitation, to start doing London Gatwick, London Heathrow to Gateway International Airport this summer,” he said.
The move follows the official commissioning of the airport by Bola Tinubu on Saturday, in what authorities describe as a major step towards boosting Ogun State’s connectivity and economic potential.
According to Onyema, the planned routes will position the state as an emerging aviation hub while improving access for international travellers and investors.
He commended the state government for delivering what he described as a world-class facility, noting that the airport ranks among the best-equipped in sub-Saharan Africa.
“This is one of the best-equipped airports in sub-Saharan Africa, and Air Peace will not sit back and watch this facility go unused,” he said. “When you see a promising initiative, you must embrace it.”
Industry observers say the planned operations could enhance regional trade, tourism and business activity, while easing pressure on existing international gateways in Nigeria.
