Adamawa 2027: Student group endorses Dr Bakari Girei for APC governorship ticket

A student group in Adamawa State has thrown its weight behind Dr. Salihu Bakari Girei, endorsing him as the preferred candidate of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The group, speaking at a gathering in Yola, said its decision followed consultations with students and young voters across the state, citing Girei’s track record in education, youth development and public service as key reasons for the endorsement.

According to the student leaders, Girei’s background as an educationist and his role at the Tertiary Education Trust Fund position him as a candidate capable of addressing challenges in the education sector and improving opportunities for young people.

They noted that his previous contributions to school development and human capital growth in Adamawa have earned him credibility among students and grassroots communities. The group also urged APC stakeholders to prioritise competence and electability in choosing the party’s flag bearer.

The endorsement adds to a growing wave of support from youth and grassroots organisations across the state. Earlier, the Adamawa State Youths Forum had similarly backed Girei, describing him as a “tested, trusted and proven leader” with a strong record in community development and party loyalty.

Girei, an academic and former commissioner, has continued to gain momentum within APC circles, with multiple stakeholders and support groups rallying behind his ambition to reclaim Adamawa State for the party in 2027.
