Adamawa would be fortunate to have Girei as governor- campaign spokesman

The director of strategic communication for the SBG Governorship Campaign Council, Macauley Hunohashi, has said Adamawa State would be fortunate to have Dr Salihu Bakari Girei as governor in 2027, describing the former education administrator as one of the most experienced contenders in the race.

Speaking in a telephone interview on Monday, Hunohashi said political observers, traditional leaders and supporters across the state had continued to project Girei as a leading figure ahead of the next governorship election because of his long record in public service and administration.

He said Girei’s rising acceptance across Adamawa was linked to his experience in education, local government administration and grassroots development, as well as what he described as the aspirant’s consistent engagement with communities across the state.

According to Hunohashi, Girei’s profile in public office distinguishes him from many of those seeking the governorship position.

He pointed to Girei’s tenure as commissioner for local government affairs, where he said the former commissioner contributed to strengthening local administration and improving relations between government institutions and rural communities.

Hunohashi also referenced Girei’s period as executive chairman of the Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board, during which he said several reforms were introduced to improve access to primary education.

He said many rural communities benefited from the construction and renovation of classrooms, recruitment of teachers and expansion of school infrastructure under Girei’s leadership.

“Dr Salihu Bakari Girei has built a reputation as a committed administrator and reform minded leader. His record in public service speaks for itself. From local government administration to educational development, he has consistently demonstrated competence and vision,” Hunohashi said.

The campaign spokesman further cited Girei’s experience at the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, where he served in research and development related roles, saying the exposure gave him wider national networks and administrative experience.

According to him, Girei possesses the capacity to attract investment, improve governance and drive development in Adamawa State.

Hunohashi said political consultations had intensified following Girei’s successful clearance by the All Progressives Congress screening committee.

He disclosed that the campaign council had begun engagements with stakeholders, youth groups, women organisations and party structures across the southern and central zones of the state as part of efforts to consolidate support ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The consultations, he said, were aimed at strengthening political alliances and expanding grassroots mobilisation across Adamawa.

Hunohashi expressed confidence that growing support for Girei among party members and residents reflected what he described as a public desire for experienced leadership.

He added that the campaign would continue to focus on issue based engagements and inclusive consultations across the state while urging supporters to remain peaceful and united.
