SDP Picks Christopher Nathaniel as Adamawa Governorship Candidate for 2027
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Adamawa State has become the first political party in the state to produce its governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 general election.
Christopher Nathaniel emerged as the party’s flag bearer following his affirmation as the sole aspirant seeking the SDP ticket.
Delegates drawn from the 21 local government areas of the state gathered on Thursday, 21 May 2026, at Duragi Hotels, Yola, where they endorsed Nathaniel’s candidature under the supervision of national officials of the party.
The exercise was presided over by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Rufus Ayenigba, who led the national delegation in conducting the process in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026.
Nathaniel’s candidature was affirmed through a voice vote after a motion for adoption was moved by Hassan Laido from Yola South Local Government Area and seconded by Mrs Helen from Numan Local Government Area.
Speaking shortly after his emergence, Christopher Nathaniel thanked the delegates and party officials for conducting what he described as a transparent process in line with the Electoral Act.
He pledged to provide responsible and responsive leadership if elected governor by the people of Adamawa State.
“No pensioner will be owed a dime of outstanding gratuities within the first six months of my administration. I will ensure that all outstanding pension arrears are cleared,” Nathaniel said.
Nathaniel, who is also Director of Greenville LNG, said his administration would prioritise education reforms, agricultural transformation and empowerment initiatives.
He added that he would promote the optimal use of gas as an alternative to Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in a bid to reduce transportation costs across the state.
The Adamawa State Chairman of the SDP, Paul Ahundana, commended delegates for what he described as their diligence and praised national officials for ensuring a successful and orderly exercise.
